Overall
- Treat each other with kindness and respect.
- If you arrive at school late or leave early, please check-in and out at the office.
- We enjoy birthday treats, but we do not expect everyone to bring them. Talk with your homeroom teacher if you do bring treats.
- Parents are encouraged to call or email the office to contact their children. If electronic devices come to school, they need to be turned off and stored in lockers and/or the homeroom teacher may collect them at the beginning of the day and you may pick them up before leaving for the day. If we see an electronic device during the day, we may need to take it to the principal and it may be picked up at the end of the day.
- If you need to reach a parent during the day, ask the teacher for permission to use the school phone. If there is no answer be sure to leave a message. You should not email your parent from your school device.
- Wash/Sanitize your hands frequently.
- Please respect our dress code. Here are a few particulars:
- Be sure your shirts come with sleeves and that your shorts extend down to your longest fingertip.
- Skirts and dresses should extend to just above the knees or lower.
- Leggings may be worn under shorts or an appropriate length dress/shirt.
- Leave the pajama pants and ripped jeans at home
Hallway
- Please help keep our hallways safe. Don't push or shove others.
- Learning takes concentration. Let's help each other by keeping our hallways quiet.
- Remember to walk with a 'purpose". Respect your teachers and classmates by arriving to class on time.
- If classes display projects in the hallway, do not touch them.
- Middle schoolers: if you are asked to store books and study materials on the hallway floor, set them down gently and orderly. Do not drop them. Make sure they are against the wall.
Chapel / Peer Groups
- Chapel is a time of worship. Be respectful: watch, listen, and sing along.
- Each homeroom will have a seating chart for chapels and assemblies.
- On Chapel days, please wear your theme shirt (and let it show during chapel).
- Peer groups - please gather your group quickly and go directly to your designated area so the most can be made from your time together. Be respectful to your leader and keep noise to a minimum.
Before School
- Sit quietly in the hallway outside your classroom until the 8:20 bell. Keep your legs close to your body to avoid tripping someone.
Classroom
- Bring your assignment notebook to each class and fill it out by the end of each period.
- Use your accordion folder to stay organized, if applicable.
- Bring your instrument and music to each practice.
- We learn best when we listen to each other. Please wait for your turn to talk.
- Classes will include a variety of activities, but students are expected to listen quietly when the teacher is talking.
- Students may bring WATER to class in a lidded container. These should be refilled during breaks or between classes - not during class time.
- Restrooms should be visited during break times or between classes - not during class time.
- Teachers will do their best to help you remember your assignments by posting them on the school website. Students should also write the assignments in their assignment notebooks provided by the school (middle school students).
- Assignments are due at the beginning of class. If your work is late, we will need to email or call parents and may ask you to come in for detention. Teachers will work with students to complete late assignments as soon as possible. If you need help - ask your teacher. Three (3) late assignments in a semester will result in a detention.
- Failed tests are causes for concern. If a test goes poorly, we will let your parents know.
- Please don't sit on desks or tables. It loosens screws and bends the metal.
- For study halls, bring all of your work at the beginning of class, and remember to include a good book with materials in case you finish your work early.
- If you see something that needs attention/fixing in your classroom or elsewhere in the school, bring it to your teacher's attention.
- Lockers: avoid tape and stickers, please. Pictures should reflect our school's values.
- Keep liquids out of our lockers. Please keep snacks in sealed containers.
- Only open and use your own locker.
- Students may not chew gum (even during recess) in school. Teachers reserve the right to prohibit food in the classroom.
Recess
- Include other students in your activities.
- Be mindful of the "recess" signs posted in school indicating if you need to wear boots/old shoes.
- If you get hurt during recess, tell one of the supervising staff members. They will refer you to the office if you need first aid.
- Line up quickly by the back door when recess is over. Remember that whatever you take outside for recess needs to come back in with you and put away appropriately.
- Pick up any trash you may see on the playground and dispose of it once inside school.
- Remember to bring appropriate clothing for recess. If you are able to leave an extra pair of old shoes at school please do so.
Lunch Room
- Wash your hands before entering the cafeteria for lunch.
- An orderly serving line keeps things running efficiently; stay in line and close to the wall. Use your indoor voice if you talk.
- Please keep your hands to yourself. Do not take food off other student's trays.
- Help keep our lunchroom clean by keeping your food on your tray and off the floor. Clean up any messes.
- Check with your teacher before you go back for a second helping.
- When leaving the lunchroom, exit quietly, escorted by a teacher.
Athletics
- Review the RVCS Athletic Handbook, located on the school website.
Technology Devices
- Treat Ipads, Chromebooks, and other devices with care. Use them only for school purposes, and keep them closed in transport. If you push these rules, you may lose your computer privileges.
- Put your computer back in the appropriate place, and make sure that it is plugged in.
- If you run into issues with a printer, let the office know. Do not try to fix the problem yourself. Middle school students may reload the paper into the printer.
- If you have any issues with your computer notify your teacher right away
Consequences
Behaviors that will result in consequences:
- Late assignments
- Tardies
- Behavior that consistently limits learning for self or others
- Not following shared expectations
- Disrespect/bullying

Consequences
- Step 1: The teacher will talk to the student and implement classroom interventions to encourage expected behavior (grace/opportunity to improve).
- Step 2: If the behavior continues or if immediate removal from the classroom is needed due to safety or disruption, the student will meet with the teacher and principal to restore the situation and to make a plan moving forward. The principal will contact parents to share the plan and set up a meeting if needed. *A board representative will be involved whenever requested by the principal.
Detention
Detentions will be assigned to students who have had 3 or more late assignments. A teacher may also choose to assign detention for infractions and/or misbehavior.
